Real stories, boldly told.

Writer | Educator| Storyteller

Welcome

I’m Elizabeth Hensley, a writer, educator, and storyteller with a passion for the messy, magical, and meaningful moments that connect us. From personal essays to public talks, my work is all about turning real-life experiences into stories that help us make sense of the world — and ourselves.

What I Do

Creative nonfiction, real stories from my own life — coming-of-age, rites of passage, and the art of starting over.

  • Articles & Essays: I write about culture, identity, resilience, and what it means to grow up (and keep growing up).
  • Books: My debut book Dead Girl shares the story of how I faked my own death in high school — and everything that followed.
  • Presentations & Workshops: I speak on storytelling, communication, cultural studies, and the messy magic of being human.

Digging Deeper

Writer, educator, and presenter with a background in journalism, creative writing, and my M. A. in American Studies. I’ve lived on a school bus, worked on a cruise ship, and chased stories from Atlanta, Georgia, to Occupy Portland to Big Bear Lake, CA — all in search of understanding the world and my place in it.
